The California Risk Assessment Pilot Project (CalRAPP) aimed to integrate evidence-based practices, specifically risk and needs assessment (RNA) information, into adult felony probation sentencing and violation proceedings across multiple California counties. Funded by the State Justice Institute and the National Institute of Corrections, the project sought to reduce recidivism and improve offender accountability by providing training and technical assistance on evidence-based practices and evaluating the implementation and outcomes. The project reported success in reducing probation failure rates and improving collaboration among justice system partners, suggesting that incorporating RNA information into sentencing and violation proceedings can lead to more informed and effective decision-making in the criminal justice system.
